ASME B16.47 Flanges are large diameter flanges. Unlike ASME B16.5 Flanges, it mainly covers two kind of flanges: blind flanges and weld neck flanges.  Forged flanges are high quality and good performance, they can bear high pressure and temperature. Blind flange is s solid disc with bolt holes, it has the similar function with pipe fitting plug and pipe cap.

What is A Blind Flange Used For?

Blind Flanges are usually used at the end or branch of pipeline to block off pipes and stop the flow. In petrol, chemical, engineering, public services and water works industries it is very common and useful. It is also suitable for making inspection or repairs to pipelines.

Inspection of ASTM A335 P9 Flanges

Marking: the marking such as “ ASME B16.5 BL 28” 300# RF SCH40 717” should be clear and correct.

Surface: the surface should checked by eyes and hand to ensure they are even and smooth.

Dimensions: Measure the dimensions which defined in dimension chart and make sure they are in tolerance.

Differences Between ASME B16.47 and ASME B16.5

The biggest difference between ASME B16.47 Flange and ASME B16.5 Flange is their dimensions.

ASME B16.47 flanges stands for large diameter flanges, so their diameter at least is 26”. However, the ASME B16.5 flanges are within 24”.

What’s more, their pressure ratings is different. ASME B16.5 flange is available in class 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500 and 2500, while ASME B16.47 flange is available in class 150, 300, 400, 600 and 900.
