A53 welded pipe is a general, all-purpose pipe used in generator plants, natural gas transmission and steam conduction. It is acceptable for welding, flanging and bending. A53 Galvanized Pipe looks similar to a nickel in color. But as it ages, galvanized pipe may appear much duller, lighter, or darker.

ERW pipe means electric resistance welded pipe, it is available in various dimensions and applications.

A135 Pipe vs A53

ASTM A53/ A53M: Standard specification for pipe, steel, black and hot-dipped, zinc-coated, welded and seamless.

ASTM A135: Standard specification for electric-resistance-welded steel pipe. Covers grade A and Grade B.

The biggest difference is that A135 is made by the electric resistance welded method only, and A53 includes three methods of pipe manufacturing.

Another difference is that A53 pipe must be hydrostatically tested, and A135 specification allows nondestructive eddy current or ultrasonic testing to replace hydrotesting.

ASTM A135 are commonly used as sprinkler piping and A53 CS pipe is known as pressure piping for gas, steam, water, air, as well as sprinkler pipe.
