A182 F304 Hex Head Plug ASME B16.11

Sometimes we can see people describe a Plug as 1”A182 F304 Hex Head Plug  M-NPT ASME B16.11. But what is these mean? Let me tell you.

The most important word is plug which tell us what pipe fitting they need, and other words are description for plug.

The plug is an external threaded pipe fitting that used to connect the internal threads of the pipe end.

ASME B16.11 Plug

In fact, they are the same thing which is described in different way. 1/2” and DN15 are nominal size of pipe fittings. The manufacturer can know the weight and specific size of each part according to standard ASME B16.11. And also there are some standards, but ASME B16.11 is the most common and popular one, and if you don’t have special requirement about the standard, it can omit as well. This standard covers ratings, dimensions, tolerances, marking and material requirements for forged pipe fittings that are Socket Weld Fittings and Threaded Fittings.

A182 F304 Plug

The A182 F304 Hex Head Plug” refers to its material. A182 is the U. S. standard number of stainless steel forgings, F means forging, and 304 is a serial number. Actually it is ASTM A182 F304, but the ASTM usually can be omit. So it means a forged plug which is made of stainless steel 304 according to American standard ASTM A182.

Hex Head M-NPT Plug

A182 F304 Hex Head Plug is a kind of Threaded Plug. The plug also has countersunk head, round head and square head. Different head shape influences the weight of plug.

NPT is a concrete form of thread which need glue sealing, and M means male, namely the thread is external the plug. And female indicates the thread is internal.

Carbon Steel Plug Surface

Except these, surface is also a factor that you should pay attention. Generally speaking,A182 F304 Hex Head Plug is not need to do anti-corrosion processing because its has a better corrosion protection. But for carbon steel and alloy steel, they can’t do as well as stainless steel. so if you see galvanized A105N Plug that means this plug need to be galvanized as corrosion protection, and A105N is carbon steel and could be Oil Anti Rust and Galvanized.

The description of bull plug are nothing different with plug, customers are always interested in DN50 galvanized ASME B16.11 A105N NPT hex head bull plug. Because A105N + Galvanized is cheaper than stainless steel. And usage life are almost same.
